Employment Law
Members of Singleton Urquhart’s Employment Law Group are skilled and experienced practitioners in all aspects of employment law, including the drafting of employment and independent contractor agreements, advising on workplace issues including human rights and legislative requirements, and advising both employers and employees on wrongful dismissal matters.
Our group members have learned through extensive experience that employment law can have a devastating impact on the workplace, including loss of valued personnel, economic impacts on business - including lost revenue, creating poisoned work environments and having detrimental impacts on business reputation. That is why we stress the need for a preventative approach, including strongly drafted employment and independent contractor agreements, workplace training, use of mediation and alternate dispute resolution techniques, and a rapid response in the face of crisis.
Members of the Employment Law Group have represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia and in mediations and arbitrations.
We have extensive experience in all aspects of employment-related claims including:
- Advising government, industry and individuals on employment, human rights, workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety, and employment standards issues;
- Preparing employment and independent contractor agreements;
- Advising on preparation of workplace manuals addressing issues such as harassment, privacy, confidentiality and restrictive covenants;
- Conducting and participating in mediations and arbitration -- members of our Group are chartered mediators and chartered arbitrators.
