Professional Background
Clive Boulton was born in Vancouver and graduated from Kamloops Senior Secondary School in 1971. He then attended the University of British Columbia starting an Arts Degree and then took a year off to work and travel to Mexico in 1973-1974. After completing the third year of his Arts Degree in literature and history in 1975, Mr. Boulton entered the UBC Law program, graduating in 1978. He did his articles at a large Vancouver litigation firm and was called to the Bar in May 1979.
Mr. Boulton joined the Provincial Crown Counsel office in Vancouver to gain trial experience after finishing his articles. For two years he did exclusively trial work in Provincial and Supreme Court, and spent six months doing jury trials.
In 1981 Mr. Boulton entered private practice at an insurance defence firm and practiced in a variety of areas including fire losses, commercial and vehicle fraud, real estate defence, medical malpractice defence and personal injury defence. He also handled personal injury plaintiff cases and continued to practice in the criminal courts.
More recently, Mr. Boulton’s focus continues to be on personal injury insurance defence including occupier’s liability and vehicle injury claims. Mr. Boulton continues to defend travel insurance claims and contractors in construction claims, but his practice focuses mainly on defending personal injury claims including catastrophic injury, brain injury, thoracic outlet syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome and soft tissue injuries. Mr. Boulton has presented papers on subjects such as chronic pain and drafting expert reports. He is a trial lawyer and enjoys working with juries.
