Civil Fraud
Singleton Urquhart's Fraud Litigation Group is very active working with companies and individuals to pursue legal remedies for commercial and insurance theft and fraud.
Unfortunately, commercial crime is a growing industry worldwide. In British Columbia, despite this trend, the resources devoted by government to combat it are in relative decline. As a consequence, problems and disputes that were traditionally expected to be investigated and prosecuted criminally are now dealt with through the civil courts and other creative legal processes and remedies.
Drawing on our broad experience in civil and criminal litigation, we assist our clients with development of strategies to manoeuvre through these challenging areas. Legal practice in this field requires a background of knowledge and personal contacts. Moreover a successful fraud lawsuit is largely dependent on the underlying investigation. The lawyers in our group focus on this area and therefore interact regularly with police and other investigative agencies and forensic accountants, Crown Counsel, private investigators, skip tracers, bankruptcy professionals, computer and statistical experts, handwriting analysts and other professionals who can assist in an effective investigation.
Our members also invest their time studying the cutting-edge problems facing our clients through study and professional associations. We pro-actively prepare and provide private seminars on a wide array of topics and provide opinions and articles on legal issues that are of immediate interests to our clients.
