Summer Articling Program

It is our goal to provide our summer articling students with the opportunity to begin developing their legal skills and gain experience to enable them to enjoy a successful practice in law. In this regard, as a summer student with Singleton Urquhart you will gain hands on experience, work closely with various lawyers and will obtain a broad exposure to a variety of Singleton Urquhart’s practice areas. During the first few weeks at the firm, our summer students will participate in an orientation program which will familiarize them with the firm’s library and research services, office equipment and procedures.

Each of our summer students are assigned a principal who is a partner with the firm and who will be responsible to ensure that the summer student receives a wide variety of work during that student’s summer articles. If a student has an interest in a particular area of law, his or her principal will assist the student in obtaining exposure to that type of work.

Each summer student will also be assigned an associate to act as a mentor. The role of the mentor is to assist the principal in monitoring the student’s progress and to give support and guidance, both formally and informally, to the student throughout their summer articles.

We know that feedback is critical in the learning process and all lawyers who interact with the summer students are encouraged to give them ongoing critical appraisals regarding their performance.

Singleton Urquhart hires summer students for the period May through August of each year, following the same procedures as we do with articling students.  Interviews for summer student positions are held in October.  All interested applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, covering letter, and undergraduate and law school transcripts by the date set out in the Vancouver Bar Association's Articling and Student Application Deadlines.  Send the material to
