Professional Background

After receiving his law degree, Mr. Taviss joined the Montreal firm of Mendelsohn, Rosentzveig, Shacter as an articled student. He practiced law with that firm until 1986, at which time he retired as a senior partner. In 29 years of practice, Mr. Taviss pleaded regularly before all courts throughout Quebec, including the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He served on committees of the Bar Association, notably for five years on the committee which made up and marked the Bar examinations. He also lectured on the Law of Sale at McGill University’s law school, was a lecturer at the Meredith Memorial Lectures, and wrote “ATest of Materiality” in the McGill Law Journal.

Since 1987, Mr. Taviss has acted as a consultant for Singleton Urquhart in major litigation files. In 1997, he became the chair of an Administrative Tribunal which hears cases under the Medicare Protection Act.
