Professional Background
Michael Hewitt has been a litigator his entire legal career. His extensive legal background includes a litigation practice with Singleton Urquhart since 1993, which was preceded by a 1991 appointment as a Law Clerk to the Ontario Court of Appeal, and a tenure as a prosecutor with the federal Department of Justice in Vancouver.
Mr. Hewitt represents clients in cases involving professional liability, insurance, fraud, contract and other business disputes. In the past, he has represented both Crown and defence in a wide range of criminal and regulatory prosecutions.
He regularly appears as counsel in all levels of the British Columbia courts, as well as in arbitrations and mediations. His record includes many successful results in both judge and jury trials, as well as in appeals, and negotiated settlements of complex cases. Out of court, he also provides ongoing strategic advice to many clients.
On a daily basis, he leads a team of experienced and dedicated lawyers and legal assistants in providing results-oriented service to our valued clients
