Warren Godfrey is an Associate in the commercial business litigation and workplace law practice groups who focuses his practice on general corporate commercial, employment and entertainment disputes.
With a background in commercial litigation, Warren has dealt with contractual and other general business disputes, corporate governance, shareholder disputes, employment agreements and wrongful dismissal disputes. He also has a strong interest in entertainment law and has worked on several compliance issues in this area. Warren has also worked on several Petitions to affirm minor actors’ contracts in British Columbia.
Warren has appeared before the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. He has also appeared before the Labour Relations Board.
Warren has also been involved in the successful resolution of many business negotiations and mediations. Warren appeared with Ron Josephson in a precedent setting case in the BC Court of Appeal (Smithies Holdings Inc. v. RCV Holdings Ltd. 2017 BCCA 177 ), the Decision of which was handed down in April 2017, where the court of Appeal clarified the law on special costs, namely that special costs should be reserved for misconduct during litigation and not awarded for pre-litigation conduct.
Prior to making the move to Vancouver, Warren worked as a lawyer in South Africa where he had a varied civil litigation practice.
Warren has several years of sales and marketing management experience in the hospitality and lighting industry and has a National Certificate in Business Management.
