Professional Background

Warren Godfrey is a Partner in the Commercial Litigation and Entertainment Law Practice Groups at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP. His practice focuses primarily on general business, real estate and entertainment disputes.

He is a passionate advocate for his clients rights, offering timely, results oriented advice, helping them to resolve their diverse business disputes.

Warren has experience with contractual and other general business disputes, corporate governance, shareholder disputes, injunctions, leaseholder disputes, employment agreements and wrongful dismissal disputes, and he has acted for clients in a wide range of industries. He also has a focus in entertainment law and has worked on a variety of disputes in this area, including acting for production companies, individual artists, and media companies.

He has been involved in the successful resolution of many business disputes, either by way of litigation, negotiation or mediation. For example, the precedent setting case in the British Columbia Court of Appeal where the court of Appeal clarified the law on special costs, namely that they should be reserved for misconduct during litigation and not awarded for pre-litigation conduct.  Warren also brings Petitions to the Supreme Court to affirm minor actors’ contracts in British Columbia.

Warren has appeared before the Federal Court, the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia. He has also successfully represented clients who have matters at the Labour Relations Board, the Civil Resolution Tribunal and the Residential Tenancy Branch.

He worked as a lawyer in South Africa where he had a varied civil litigation practice. He has experience in business management and prides himself on his ability to understand and appreciate his clients’ unique business needs.
