Helmut Johannsen

Helmut Johannsen joined us in April 2016 as Associate Counsel. Helmut draws on his extensive background both as a construction lawyer and as a Registered Professional Engineer to focus on construction, engineering, procurement and infrastructure. Helmut’s diverse domestic and international practice includes strategic advice; risk mitigation; advising on project delivery systems; and all aspects of contract law. He is also a Chartered Arbitrator (ADR Institute of Canada) and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and has acted as both counsel and arbitrator on numerous arbitrations involving construction, engineering, procurement and technical matters. Avon Mersey

Avon Mersey recently joined us as Associate Counsel. Avon has over 40 years’ experience in civil litigation and is well regarded in his field. His main areas of focus are insurance defence and product liability. Avon has a wealth of experience in defending product liability claims, claims for disability and life carriers, aviation insurers, motor vehicle carriers, C.G.L. carriers, fire and property carriers, excess carriers and environment risk carriers as well as asbestos litigation. Jessica Taylor

Jessica Taylor joined the firm in July 2016. Jessica Taylor is an associate in the commercial and business litigation and workplace law groups.  Jessica’s health law experience includes professional regulation work, including previously representing physicians before the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and dentists and nurses before their respective colleges, as well as malpractice defense work, legislative compliance and commercial disputes. Jessica also has experience in workplace law and presently represents several restaurants including a large Canadian restaurant chain. She also has a varied general litigation practice and has experience in contract disputes, construction litigation, lease disputes, corporate opportunity claims and charter remedies.
